Max Vernon, Music and Lyrics

“This guy is as well rounded as artists get.  His sound is a unique blend of unfiltered pop, 1940’s jazz and harmonic brilliance that can only be defined as ‘smart pop.’” – New York Post

“Max Vernon is a pouty piano virtuoso whose compositions are so nuanced (and so well sung).” – The New Yorker

Max is a 24-year-old songwriter/performer, playwright, and visual artist based out of New York City. His music and writing have been praised in The New Yorker, New York Magazine, New York Post, Time Out New York, W Magazine, Rolling Stone, The Toronto Star, and dozens of online blogs. He was also featured on Engine Room Recordings’ Guilt By Association compilation alongside My Brightest Diamond, Kaki King, Frightened Rabbit and others.

His musical, WIRED, was a finalist for the 2011 Eugene O'Neill Musical Theatre Conference, and was recently given a 29-hour reading at Ars Nova Theater with a cast that included Broadway regulars Matt Doyle, Teal Wicks, Patrick Page, and Paige Davis, among others. WIRED was later written up in Playbill and Broadway World, and named a finalist for the 2012 Drama League New Works grant.
